From the August 12, 1915, edition of the Larned City, Kansas Tiller and Toiler newspaper: ANOTHER EARLY SETTLER GONE Mrs. Catherine Miller Succumbs to Paralysis. Came to Larned in 1876. Mrs. Catherine Miller, mother of John H. Miller, died at her home at 523 Main Street, this city, Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, from the effects of a stroke of paralysis Monday morning. Funeral services were held at the Larned Catholic church Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Father Hayden of Seward officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Larned cemetery beside the grave of her deceased husband. When her son John started to work Monday morning he left his mother apparently as well as usual, but on returning a few moments later to get a raincoat he found her lying in the kitchen doorway with the rain beating in her face. She did not recognize anyone after being stricken, and the end finally came peacefully and without apparent suffering. Her daughter, Mrs. F.C. Hawkins of Rogers, Ark., was summoned and arrived Tuesday before her mother passed away. The deceased was born August 25, 1837, in Altone, Ireland, and died at the age of 77 years, 9 months, 16 days. She came to America with her mother when 9 years old, locating in New York, where as a young woman she married J.H. Miller a contractor. They moved from New York to Decatur, Ills., and from the latter place in 1876 they came to Larned. The husband died here in 1885, after being in business here as a contractor 9 years. The one son and one daughter are the only relatives who survive Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Miller had been a member of the Catholic church many years.
