Facts and Events
Karl Jakob Schlegel was a loveable man who enjoyed people. He was very close to his family, especially his brother Hermann. Karl met Hedwig at a wedding. Karl was the best man and Hedwig was the Maid of Honor to her cousin. They later married and had four children. Frieda (died as an infant), Brigitte, Hermann, and Klara. Karl liked to go to the local pubs and hang out with his friends which often upset Hedwig. Karl also worked as a steel pourer worker, which his son Hermann also did. Karl was enlisted in World War II early on. He and his brother Hermann were accidentally put together in the same battalion. They loved serving together, but as soon as it was found out that they were brothers, they were separated. Hermann was then sent to Russia. During the war Karl liked to steal food from the Army and give it to the surrounding poor families. Karl was soon killed at the Agean Sea when their battle ship was bombed. He died at the tender age of 37 leaving behind a wife a three children. References
