    GREENSBORO, Md. - Julia Hedwig Smith of Greensboro died of natural causes Friday, April 27, 2001, in her home. She was 77.

    Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Cooksville, daughter of the late Francis David and Julia Guilta [sic] Smith. She moved to Cambridge in 1985 from Clearwater Beach, then moved to Greensboro in 1992. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Smith Sr. on Jan. 5, 1999.

    She is survived by a son, John A. Smith Jr. of Crofton; five daughters, Mary A. Taylor and Bernadette A. Tolson, both of Greensboro, Patricia L. Tolson of Denton, Susan T. Walls of Federalsburg, Colleen C. Taylor of Greensboro; five brothers, Albert Smith of Ellicott City, Francis Edward Smith of Emmitsburg, Leo Smith of Coronada Island, Kevin Smith of Weaverville, N.C., and William Donahue of Ellicott City; three sisters, Dorothy Feaga of Severn, Regina Clas of Woodbine, and Sr. Maritia Smith of Sandyhook, Ky., 21 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

    Mrs. Smith was a member of the St. Benedicts Catholic Church, Ridgely, the Potters Clay Prayer group at the St. Gertrude's Priory.

    Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, with a rosary at 8:45 p.m.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Ridgely. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to SARA'S place, c/o Sr. Maritia, Route 1 Box 1042, Sandyhook, KY 41171.
