OLD RESIDENT GONE

Mrs. Julia Snyder Succumbs at the Age of Eighty-one

TO BE LAID TO REST ON SUNDAY FRIDAY

  Mrs. Julia Snyder, whose illness was mentioned yesterday, passed away this morning at her home at the corner of Main and Madison streets.  She has been in poor health for some time but since Tuesday has been failing rapidly.  Funeral services will be conducted by Rv. E. J. Symons at the First Methodist church at half past two o'clock Sunday afternoon.
  The deceased was born Jan. 25th, 1826, in Morristown, N.Y., and fifty-one years ago came west with her husband, settling in this community where she has since resided.  Her husband died in 1879.  She leaves four sons -- John, Gust, Philo and Seth -- of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. Sarah Coates, of Findlay, Wis.  Surviving her are also one sister, Mrs. Jane Hill, and four brothers, Fred and Dan Buckman, of our city, George Buckman, of Ogdensburg, N.Y., and Guy Buckman, of Denver, Col.  Mrs. Snyder was a woman of sunny, lovable disposition, and her death will be felt as a personal loss by her many friends.

Another Pioneer Gone

  Mrs. Julia Snyder died at her home in this city on Friday morning, of general debility, after several weeks illness, aged 81 years.
  Deceased was born in Morristown, N.Y. in 1826, coming to Stoughton in 1856, 51 years ago, and has been a resident of this place since that time. Her husband, Washington Snyder, died in 1879. Mrs. Snyder was an esteemed member of the Methodist church, and a good christian woman. She leaves four sons, John, Augustus, Philo, and Seth and one daughter, Mrs. Sarah Coats of Findlay, this state, all of whom were present at the sad obsequies. One sister and four brothers also survive her, Mrs. Jane Hill, Fred and Daniel Buckman of this place, Geo. Buckman of Ogdensburg, N. Y. and Guy Buckman of Denver, Colo.
 Funeral services conducted by Rev. E. J. Symons, were held from the M. E. church on Sunday, which were largely attended by sympathzing friends.

 Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Oscar and two little children came up from Whitewater Saturday to attend the Funeral of Mrs. Oscar's grandmother, Mrs. Julia Snyder.  Mrs. Oscar's mother, Mrs. Sarah Coates, also arrived rom Findlay, Wis., Saturday afternoon.

  3. Snyder Family bible. (1813).

    Bible was in possession of Evelyn Marie Cargen Showers. It is not known how she acquired it. As of Aug. 2006, the Snyder Bible is owned by Evelyn's granddaughter Victoria Okorn.
