JOHN SNYDER DIES SITTING IN A CHAIR

John Snyder, the eldest brother of Waterworks Superintendent Snyder, expired suddenly Friday night while sitting in a chair at the east side home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Grosse, with whom he boarded. Death is pronounced to have been due to either apoplexy or heart trouble, which latter disease he had had for some time. The deceased, who had been a cripple from boyhood, was employed as elevator man at the Mandt wagon works, and upon leaving the plant at 6 o'clock Friday night, he was accidentally jostled by the hurrying crowd of workmen, with the result that he stumbled and fell forward over his dinner pail. He walked to his boarding place, however, and declared that he felt all right, but after he had sat down in a chair, one of the children noticed that his head had fallen to one side and that he was very pale. When Mr. and Mrs. Grosse hurried over to him he was already dead. Whether the fall on his way home had anything to do with bringing on death, will, of course, remain a matter of conjecture.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.S. Justema at the First Methodist church Monday afternoon at two o'clock, interment taking place at Riverside.
The deceased was the eldest son of the late Mrs. Julia Snyder, of our city, and was born at Ogdensburg, New York, Nov. 17, 1847. In 1854 he came with his parents to this place and has resided here practically all the time since. His wife died about six years ago but they had no children. Surviving him are three brothers, Seth B., Augustus and Philo, of this city, and a sister, Mrs. S.V. Coates, of Summerdale, Alabama.
