Facts and Events
Judith Van Langenhove lived with her parents in the town of Baardegem. The farm of her parents was called "De Seepscherf". She went to boarding school in Burst. In tune with the spirith of the time, lessons were in French instead of the native Dutch. Before she married, she worked in a bank in the city of Aalst (Societé Générale?). When travelling from her home in Baardegem to her work in Aalst she walked trough the fields of Moorsel. When passing the farm of the Meert family in the "Perrekouter", she complained to Lodewijk Jozef Meert of not feeling save when walking trough the fields. Lodewijk Jozef (Jef) proposed to escort her on her way to work. The protection offered was appreciated, as the two married. The couple went on honnymoon to Paris and Lourdes. When they married Lodewijk Jozef moved the farm of De Seepscherf in Baardegem. When she married, Judith stopped working in the bank in Aalst as married woman were not allowed to work at the time. |
