Judah Hopkins m. (1) Eastham 14 April 1702 Hannah Mayo (Samuel^4, Hannah Prence^3, Patience Brewster^2, William^1) who d. 5 July 1719 and m. (2) Harwich 12 May 1720 Hannah Mayo (Hannah Freeman^4, Mercy Prence^3, Patience Brewster^2, William^1) who survived him. These two Hannahs were second cousins. It will be seen that there was but one child, Samuel Hopkins, by the second wife. [The rest by the first wife.]

Will of "Judah Hopkins of Harwich ... Yeoman" dated 20 Jan 1747, probated 7 Mar 1748, mentions "wife Hannah all the Moveables that She had by hir father and Mother", "Daughter Rebecka Hopkins", "Daughter Hannah", "Son Judah Hopkins", "my Grandson Josiah Hopkins", "Son Silvanus Hopkins", "Son Stephen Hopkins", "my two Daughters to wit Martha Lewis and to my Daughter Martha Padock", "my three Sons".

  3. Source:Merrick, Barbara Lambert. William Brewster of the Mayflower and the Fifth Generation Descendants of His Daughter Patience 2, p. 166 says "Judah died probably in Harwich, Thursday, 7 January 1747/8." On p. 98, it says his widow died "after 20 January 1747[/8] when she was mentioned in the will of her husband." These two statements are incompatible, since if he wrote his will on 20 Jan 1747/8, he could not have died 13 days before that. Chances are, the date 7 Jan 1747/8 is a misinterpretation of the proving date, March being the correct month, and the death date should say before 7 Mar 1747/48. No record of his death is found in the Harwich VRs, nor is such a record, or a date, mentioned in the Hopkins Notes article, cited elsewhere on this page, that gives details of his will.
