  4. There are births of two Josiah Washburns recorded in Bridgewater, the son of John 11 Feb 1679/80, and the son of Jonathan 12 May 1686. There are two deaths and two probates, both very sparse and not particularly informative. One Josiah died 27 Jan 1733-34 and has probate 22029 wherein only is found, dated 24 May 1734, the administrator's bond of Edward Richmond of Taunton and Sarah Washburn Widow of Josiah Washburn late of Bridgewater. Another Josiah died 27 Feb 1750/51 and has probate 22030 wherein only is found, dated 1 Apr 1751, the administrator's bond of Nathan and Josiah Washburn as administrators (an inventory is found in the record books but missing from the file).

Source:Mitchell, Nahum. History of the Early Settlement of Bridgewater, in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, Including an Extensive Family Register p. 340, says the son of John [#11] has w. Mercy, "had a 2d w. and a s. Nathan", d. 1734 when his "estate settled by his wid. Sarah and Edward Richmond of T." On p. 342, he says the son of Jonathan [#23] m. 1723 Elizabeth Davenport and had sons Josiah and Jonathan. He gives no explanation and as near as can be determined, since he is wrong about the death date as will be explained, he merely gave the first death date to the first born? It now is not even clear if we can believe that the son of John had a second wife, since all the evidence for a second wife, at least all that is mentioned, appears to belong to the son of Jonathan.

Plymouth Deed Vol. 43, p. 82 21 Feb 1731/2: Josiah Washburn Sen'r and william Washburn both of ye Town of Bridgewater, for £30 sell to Timothy Keith of Bridgewater a 20 acre lot in ye four mile Grant of ye Township of Bridgewater, the 7th lot, "ye Purchase Right of John Washburn". The deed was acknowledged 30 Mar 1747. Thus the son of John was alive in 1747 and the 1751 death is his. Presumably this means the son of Jonathan d. 1734.
