Prewett, Joshua, born 1765 in Bedford County, Virginia; father married a 2nd wife when soldier was about age 13; soldier soon after left home for Kentucky Territory (that area then part of Virginia); entered service 1779 there in Louisville in General George Rogers Clark's regiment & continued to serve against Indians until 1784; granted Pension 1834 in Henry County, Kentucky; died 1/27/1843 in Trimble County, Kentucky; married 7/12/1829 to Maria, daughter of Lewis Yager, Henry County, Kentucky; widow married (2) 9/11/1845 to Jeremiah Berkshire who died 5/8/1868 or 5/9/1868; widow granted Pension & granted Bounty Land Warrant #10265 age 60 in Trimble County, Kentucky; query letter in file says soldier was son of Michael [Prewett]; query letter in file in 1925 from grandson Edward McKinney of Madison, Indiana, then had daughter Miss J. Pearl McKinney & granddaughter Miss Frances McKinney who wanted to join DAR on soldier's service. F-W27643, R1973.
