23. JOSHUA ISHAM (Isaac, John), born in Barnstable Apr. 14, 1727; died probably in Shelburne, Vt. May 16, 1810; married about 1750 (exact date not found), Abigail Crocker, born Mar. 10, 1733, in East Haddam, Conn., died at 5 P. M. July 1, 1774, aged 41 (Westchester Church Record), daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (Fuller) Crocker of Barnstable, East Haddam and Westchester; married second (date not found), Deborah (???), who died Nov. 8, 1790, aged 59 years. Joshua Isham, a drummer, enlisted Apr. 11, 1758, in the Third Company, Major and Capt. Joseph Spencer's, of the Second Regiment, commanded by Col. Nathan Whiting. Discharged Nov. 18, 1758 (French and Indian War Rolls, Collections of Connecticut Historical Society). Benjamin Fuller was sergeant in the same company.

from History of Shelburne: 1793 Joshua ISHAM, one of the most prominent among the pioneers of the town, was from Williamstown, Conn. He came to Shelburne in the winter of 1793, after a nine years' residence in St. George, and purchased the lot east of the falls in this town. He then bought the "old red store," goods, land and potash, at the falls, of Thaddeus TUTTLE, who afterward became one of the most prominent merchants in Burlington, and removed thither in January, 1796. Soon after this he purchased of Ira ALLEN the grist-mill and saw-mill erected by his grantor, and operated them through life. He was a good business man and became wealthy. He held many town offices, especially that of town clerk, and was long a member of the Episcopal Church. He died on the 9th of April, 1840, aged eighty-two years. William R. LAWRENCE now occupies his dwelling house.
