Joshua was the son of Stephen Emory Hawkins and Mary. He was married to Mary Etta Clark on April 3 1849 in New York. In 1850 they were living in Sterling, Cayuga County, New York . Their son Stephen was born in Feb 1852 later that same year they relocated to Fulton County, Ohio near the Old Bean Creek. He died of "inflammation of the bowels .
