    Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Will Book: 9-241
    Written 8 January 1784; proved 1 July 1784

    I, Joshua Gay of Isle of Wight County to my beloved son Jesse Gay the tract of land on which I now live and one Negro girl named Penn; the rest of my estate to be equally divided between all my children; Martha Lawrence, Joshua Gay, Robert Gay, Henry Gay, Ann Archer, Keziah Gay, Jesse Gay, and John Gay’s daughter if any such be found. I appoint my beloved son Henry my executor.

    Witnesses: William Babb, Fanny Babb, William Baldwin.
    Signed: Joshua Gay (+) “his mark”.

    Proved 1 July 1784, on oaths of Henry Gay, executor and William Babb and William Baldwin, two of the witnesses. Executor Henry Gay posted bond of five hundred pounds with William Baldwin his security.
