A census of [the town of] Leyden, taken in the year 1800, while the town included Boonville and a vast uninhabited region eastof the river, in what are now Lewis and Jefferson counties showed a population of 623, distributed among 111 families....

The census of electors in 1807 included Joseph Wetmore, Nathaniel Wetmore, Ebenezer Witmore and Ethe Whitmore, as well as Joseph's brother-in-law, William Topping. (p. 266).
