Facts and Events
Joseph Newcomb settled at Wellfleet at a place called "Newcomb Hollow," but soon afterward removed to Truro. He served in the War of the Revolution, as shown from the following in a roll dated Boston Neck, South Kingston: "Joseph, Wellfleer, Private: Capt.. Matthias Tobey's Co. Col. Aaron Willard's regt. pay abstract for travel allowance, etc. from home to the place of rendezvous, Ticonderoga, dated Boston, Jan. 15, 1777; 304 miles travel allowed said N. also sme Co. and regt> pay abstract for travel allowance, etc. from place of discharge h ome; dated Boston Jan 1777. 304 miles allowed said Newcomb; reported discharged at Ticonderoga; also Capt. Benj. Godfrey's Co. Col Josiah Whitney's regt: arrived at destination May 10,1777; discharged Jduly 10, 1777; service 2 mo. 13 da. at Rode Island, travel (13 days) included; 118 miles reported as distdance from Wellfleet to place of destination." He was never ab;e to perform physical labor after he left the army. In 1796 they sold "right of our father Joseph Bullard after decease of his widow Anna" |
