He married Margaret Crosby Smith on 24 October 1754, in Overwharton Parish, Stafford, Virginia, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 30 October 1807, in Fauquier, Virginia, United States, at the age of 75.
