Facts and Events
Joseph Hornet was baptised on 10th May 1777 at Welwyn in Hertfordshire, son of Mary Hornet, formerly Mailes, and her husband George Hornet, a labourer. On 12th September 1803, aged 26, Joseph married Hannah Parrett. She was originally from St Albans, a few miles south-west of Welwyn, although they actually married at Southwark in the southern suburbs of London. Joseph's sister Abigail had moved to Southwark, and Abigail's husband Edward Willoughby was one of the witnesses to Joseph and Hannah's marriage. After their marriage, they returned to Hertfordshire, settling in St Albans, where they had seven children baptised between 1806 and 1821. The first child was baptised in the parish of St Peter there, whilst the other six (including twins in 1810) were baptised in the parish of St Stephen. One of the children's baptisms in 1814 notes that the family lived at Park Street, a hamlet in the parish of St Stephen a little way to the south of the town of St Albans itself. Joseph worked as a miller. Back in Welwyn, Joseph's father died in 1812, and his mother died in 1825. The 1841 census finds Hannah and Joseph living at Park Street Lane. Joseph died in 1846, being buried at St Stephen's church in St Albans on 2nd April 1846, aged 68. Hannah died later that same year. References
