William Hornet was baptised on 24th June 1774 at Welwyn in Hertfordshire, son of Mary Hornet, formerly Mailes, and her husband George Hornet, a labourer. He was baptised privately, which can indicate that he was not expected to live long. He died soon after his baptism, being buried just five days later.
