Facts and Events
Joseph Holtslander b. ca. 1790 d. before 1857. On Feb. 17, 1857 his wife Polly was a witness with her neighbor Charles Davis, for the wedding of Ebenezer Davis in Kochville. It is believed that Joseph was buried in the Davis Family Plot, which is near the Indian Burial Ground. The Davis Family Plot is now owned by Saginaw Valley State College and the tombstones have been removed and to date the records whereabouts are unknown. In the 1840 Census Joseph is noted to be in Groveland, Livingston Co., N.Y. and having 3 daughters b. after 1825, among other possible children. He is listed as living there in the 1820 Census also. This Joseph was also known to have been living in 1838 in Saginaw Co., which is now Carrolton and to still be in Michigan in the 1840 Census, though living in the Town of Kochville, MI. by then. It is believed that Joseph was therefore counted twice in the 1840 Census. It is probable that he was also married more than once. He appears with a wife Polly, also known as Mary in the 1840 Census with a new-born son and again in 1850 with Polly and a 10 year old son, named Joseph Jr. m.(1)??? m.(2) Mary POLLY (?) b. ca. 1800 sometime between 1836-39.
