- There is a Joseph Graves, s/o Richard and Dorothy Graves, baptized in Salem 16 Oct 1642 (Source:Salem, Essex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records to the End of the Year 1849, p. 1:381). This is the Joseph Graves that Source:Anderson, Robert Charles. Great Migration: Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635 shows marrying Elizabeth Maynard, and secondly, Mary ---. It admits that this pairing has no direct evidence, but it finds it preferable to traditionally attributed parents Thomas Graves and Katherine Gray, because Joseph's life pattern is similar to other sons of Richard, and he named a son Richard. [Perhaps not significant, but the Joseph b. Charlestown 13 Apr 1645 would not have been of legal age at the time of the marriage 15 Jan 1665/66, albeit barely.]
