    "Crane, Joseph. Lt., west parish company, Fairfield, May 1731. Son of Jonathan and gr. son of Benjamin; b. at Windham, 17 May 1696; followed his uncle Elijah to Fairfield; d. 20 Aug. 1781. He m. abt. 1719, Mary Couch, dau. of Samuel, bapt. 3 May 1696, d. 9 Jan. 1766 ae. 70.

    Joseph Crane and Mary his wife, of Dukesfield, Dutchess County, N. Y., conveyed 29 Sept. 1744 to Ephraim Jackson and our son Zebulon Crane of Norwalk, land from Est. of Mary's father Samuel Couch, dec'd. In 1773, suit was brought by Timothy and Abigail Todd of Guilford, Stephen Crane of New Milford, Jonathan Paddock and wife Mary of South Precinct, Dutchess County, N. Y., Joshua Barnum and wife Andrea of the same, and Allen Ball and wife Ann of New Fairfield, against Joseph, David, and Ephraim Jackson, Theophilus Hull and wife Martha, of Redding, and Dan Jackson of Ridgefield [children of Ephraim Jackson dec’d], and Elnathan Sturgis and Martha his wife of Ridgefield."
