J. Blaine Burns, Jr., 96, formerly of Sanatoga, PA, and Harleysville, PA, passed away Tuesday evening, March 2, 2021, at Souderton Mennonite Homes. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha (Kulp) Burns, in May of 1950; and by his second wife, Anna Mae (Ziegler) Burns, in December of 2017, after celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary in October of that year.
Born August 27, 1924, in Limerick Township, PA, he was the last surviving of nine children born to the late J. Blaine Burns, Sr. and Ida Mae (Laughner) Burns. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed as a union carpenter and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters of Philadelphia.
Mr. Burns was an active charter member of Berean Bible Church of Pottstown, PA. He was known for his strong worth ethic and enjoyed woodworking, especially with furniture and crafts. He loved to travel and took part in over 100 bus trips over the years.
Surviving is a son, Douglass A. Burns and his wife, Elaine, of both Pennsburg, PA, and The Villages, FL. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Douglass A. Burns, Jr., Jason A. Burns and Marina N. Fillman; and ten grandchildren, Reegan, Kinsey, Haven, Harper, Berkeley, Reed, Peyton, Eli, Gabriel and Shiloh.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11:30am on Monday, March 8, 2021, at Berean Bible Church, 2675 East High Street, Pottstown, PA 19464, where family will receive friends for the viewing 10:30-11:15am. Please bring a mask and be prepared to practice social distancing. Burial will follow at Lower Skippack Mennonite Cemetery.
