There was indeed an Adlord Bowde who died in 1688 in Burlington, New Jersey leaving a wife Mary (Smart) Bowde and a son Isaac Bowde of NY. He was indeed from Hertfordshire. It was supposed in earlier genealogies that Adlord Bowde was brother of or father of the family in Massachusetts. The idea probably started because Grimstone Boude of Massachusetts had later moved to Pirth Amboy, New Jersey. That part is indeed true but that is were the connection ends. Hence the suspected family connection. But in fact no blood connection has been found between Grimstone Boude and Adlord Bowde. And it appears the spelling of their names was different. The New England family starts with Joseph Boude who appears first in Boston on 29 Mar 1653 as a distiller and moved to Marblehead by Jun 1663 and died between 20 May 1671 (deed) and 1683 (court testimony of his two daughters). He was in court several times and seems a bit lively. His wife was Elizabeth _____ . Her maiden name is unknown but posited to be Grimstone due to the name of her son Grimstone Boude.
