Mr. Black was extensively engaged in farming and in the cotton and cattle industry, and also served for a number of years as County Commissioner of Madison County, and as a trustee of the Lee School. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist church and served as a deacon for many years. Survivors include his wife,Mrs J C Black of Lee; one son Capt W E Black of Athens, GA.;four daughters, Mrs M E Crago , of Atlanta, Mrs B E Ellis, of Brunswick, Ga., Mrs J S Sale of Blountstown, Fla., and seven grandchildren: Clifford, Annell, and Carlyle Ragans, Kenny and Susan Crago, Mike Ellis, and Bruce Black. Active pallbearers:John Henry Phillips, Waldon Richardson, James Copeland, ToyWilder, Simon Kinsey, Jr., Ed Worthington, Hugh Williams and H J Brown. Funeral services attended by a large number of friends were held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the Macedonia Baptist church. Rev. P G Elrod, pastor, was assisted by Rev Ben Perry, a former pastor. Rev Russell Williams and a local quartet sang In The Garden and Does Jesus Care. Interment was in Macedonia cemetery with arrangements in charge of T J Beggs.
