Joseph was mentioned in his father, Mordecai'a will. His wife brought her certificate of membership from the settlement of Haverford to the Goshen Friends Monthly Meeting. About 1754 the Joseph Bane family moved to a Quaker settlement in the Capon Valley on a branch of the Potomac in Frederick County, VA. This settlement was started by an enterprising Quaker by the name of Alexander Ross who, in 1732, obtained a grant of 40,000 acres. Quakers from Maryland and Pennsylvania soon began moving into the area. Many of them settled within the bounds of "Ross's grant" and these people formed the Hopewell Monthly Meeting when it was established in 1735. On 15 April 1754 Parthenia Bane presented her certificate from Goshen to this monthly Meeting.

There are stories about Joseph sons, the five Bane brothers Ellis, Jesse, Nathan, Isaac and Joseph and their sister Elizabeth and about 1768 the family moved on to Washington Co., PA. There are records that indicate that their father moved with them but no record of Parthenia. Although we know that Parthenia was Quaker by the time they reached Western PA they were Baptists.
