Research Notes

  • Joseph Ball was a grandson of Col. William Ball, the immigrant. He was born in Virginia, but traveled back and forth between his residences in Virginia and England during his lifetime. Joseph Ball's Letter Book is famous among Ball researchers as it contains drafts and copies of letters which he wrote while in England from 1744 until his death in 1760, many to his nephew Joseph Chinn whom he had employed to manage his Virginia estate and affairs.
