  • Land records to look up:
    • Letter from researcher William L. Arbuckle of Salt Lake, "The deeds of Mercer Co. were searched and I found that Joseph purchased three parcels of land, the east half of lot 782 in the 4th district of the donation land of Mercer County in 1849. He purchased two smaller pieces in the same area in 1849 and 1853. No record of the disposition of this land was found. But, in 1863 he purchased land in Shenango Twsp. where he was living at the time of the 1870 Census. In 1872 his second wife Jane S. Arbuckle sold their land after Joseph died in 1871. This deed was not recorded until 1919!"

"Died. ARBUCKLE--Oct. 1st, 1871, Joseph Arbuckle, late of Shenango, aged 72 years.
He was born in the year 1800, in this county [sic], and has been a resident of the county during his entire life. He was very highly esteemed as a citizen, and a man of uprightness in all his dealings, and we believe at the time of his death was a peace with God and man. He was seized with a paralytic stroke about three weeks before his death, during which time he endured much suffering, but was resigned to the will of an all-wise Providence.

He leaves behind him a large circle of friends, a number of whom followed his remains, which were interred in the cemetery near Clarksville.-- R.A. McIntyre"

[Note: It's fairly certain that Joseph was NOT born in Mercer County.]
