"Baptized on Mar 3 1861; Godfather was Sebastian Baumann (#11 for 1861, p56).

"Letter from Our Lady of Sorrows indicates that Josef married Barbara Gresser on May 5, 1891.

"1900 Census [Jun 13 1900](ED 333, Sheet 23, Line 70, FHC #1241058) shows Josef A. living with Barbara at 211 Stockton Street, Bklyn. Merchant tailor. Correctly identifies his parents, and says he emigrated in 1887. Lists a son, Joseph (age 8, born in Feb 1892). Married nine years. Barbara born in NY in Jul 1868; parents born in Germany; indicates Barbara has had one child.

"1920 Census [Jan 8 1920](ED 337, Sheet 34, Line 56, FHC #1821234) shows Josef A. living with Wilhelmina at 1 Yarmouth Street in Woodhaven, Queens. Also lists a son, Frank (age 15), a daughter, Wilhelmina (age 14), and a second daughter, Josephine (4 yrs, 11 mos). Wilhelmina is age 39; she was born in NY, and her parents were both born in Schwaaben, Germany. Josef is a tailor and owns his own shop. Says Josef emigrated in 1886 and became a naturalized citizen in 1892. Frank, his son, is employed as a wrapper.

"1920 Census [Jan 8 1920](ED 430, Sheet 1, Line 72) shows son Joseph (age 27) living with Lillian (age 26) at 52 Ford Avenue, Glendale, Queens, NY. Also lists a daughter, Lillian (age 23 months). Joseph is an insurance agent. His wife, Lillian, and her father were both born in Germany; her mother in NY.

"Josef (age 79) was interred in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, NY on June 17, 1940. Tombstone gives years of birth and death (1861-1940).

"Baptism records at Most Holy Trinity RC Church in Brooklyn indicate that Josef and Barbara became the Godparents of Frank Joseph Schretzmann on Apr 15, 1900, the son of Franz and Josephine (Baier) Schretzmann. "
