"JOSE GLOVER, of London, being by the providence of God forthwith to embark myself for some parts beyond the seas, 16 May 1638, proved 22 December, 1638 ... my dear and loving wife ... two eldest sons, Roger and John ... my three daughters, Elizabeth, Sara and Priscilla ... faithful servant John Stidman ... all my brothers & sisters that shall be living (except my sister Collins) ... friend Mr Joseph Davies and his wife ... executors to be John Harris, my loving uncle, warden of the College of Winchester, and Richard Davies, my ancient loving friend..."

  3. 3.0 3.1 Glover notes that in English records "it is invariably written 'Joseph Glover', including a monument he himself had erected for his first wife. However, a later investigation shows that the name on the monument is actually written "Jos." (NEHGR, p. 30:27). Also, at least one of the church records quoted as Joseph turns out to be Jose, apparently the original transcriber assuming it was an abbreviated form of Joseph before this gained so much attention. Glover also quotes "History of Printing" to say that "At Harvard it [his given name] was written Jose." In deeds and legal papers, it appears as "Josse", which unfortunately gets corrupted to Jesse by some later authors. Josse also appears in his will as recorded in Middlesex Court Records (NEHGR, p. 23:136), but apparently the original will in London, and the signature on it, say "Jose" (Source:NEHGR, p. 30:27). It seems more has been written about what his name is, than about him. It appears the strongest argument is for Jose, but, in any event, the literature refers to him variously as Jose Glover or Joseph Glover, depending on the particular author's preference.
