  8. There is not very good coverage of the Simpsons of Charlestown and Boston. It does not help that Simpson and Simson are not matches for each other under Soundex. That said, the best source for Jonathan Simpson, one small part of which found its way into Wheeler, is Source:Wyman, Thomas Bellows. Genealogies and Estates of Charlestown, Massachusetts, 1629-1818, p. 2:867, which says this Jonathan [#7] m. (1) Abigail ---, m. (2) Esther Wheeler, and made a will dated 4 Aug 1733 naming wife Esther, children Jonathan, Elizabeth Hunnewell and Abigail. As in Wheeler, no birthdates are given for the children and all we know is that Elizabeth m. a Mr. Stephen Hunnewell. This marriage occurred in 1726, and so suggests that the daughter is the Elizabeth b. 1703. But if this is so, then Jonathan's first wife was named Elizabeth Cox, not Abigail. The basis for thinking he had a wife named Abigail has not been found, and whether she might be a second wife, or whether it may be an assumption based on the name of the other daughter, or whether the Jonathan Simpson who married Elizabeth Cox is a different person, is not known. Birth records for the other children would probably offer clues but haven't been found yet.
