The Janes family: A genealogy and brief history of the descendants of ... By Frederic Janes 155 (IX) JONATHAN, SON OF JONATHAN. Jonathan Janes was born in Brimfield, and went from there to the city of Hartford; was engaged in some public business, probably the law, and resided there thirteen years, where he was active, trustworthy and influential. He was a member of the general court and legislature of Connecticut. He was appointed by a land company of Hartford to take charge of their lands in Northern Vermont. He settled in Richford, and being appointed a judge of the county court, and afterward probate judge, he found it more convenient to reside in St. Albans. He was highly esteemed, and may well be called a candid, worthy, upright judge. His descendants are a numerous train of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, now scattered over the country. A fuller and more complete record of this distinguished man should have found page room, but no one was willing to give attention to the subject as it "would not pay" them. He married Patty Plympton of Sturbridge, in 1780, and died 30 June, 1823. Children. 337 i. Horace, born 18 September, 1781; married (1) Catharine Barnard, (2) M. Brown, (3) E. S. Partridge. 338 Ii.
