Jonathan Coolidge [#1.4.10], s/o Nathaniel Coolidge and Mary Bright, "b. about 1672", m. (1) Mercy ---, m. (2) Boston 1724 Experience (Thorton) Wakefield. Administration granted 19 Dec 1729 to Oakes Angier.
[Note: "His will may be found in Middlesex Probate Files 5105." Usually, when a will is present, there is an executor, not an administrator, although if the original executor refuses (not mentioned), there would be an administrator with will annexed. Combined with the discrepancy cited over Bond's version of the death date, it may be useful to verify the actual probate file.]

    [torn]than, [died] Dec. 7, 1729. PR1
    [torn]than of Wattertown, "ild By a fall from a tree", Feb. 17, 1730. PR1
[Note: PR1=Hyde Diary. The granting of administration on 19 Dec 1729 suggests 7 Dec 1729. Whether the February date was simply another mention of the same incident in the diary, or another person is not clear from this information. Bond, p. 166, says "He d. killed by the fall of a tree, Dec. 7, 1730, and Oakes Angier was appointed , Dec. 19, 1730, admin'r."]

  3. The reason for estimating the birth to be 1672 is not clear. The reason for questioning it is the closeness of the birth of sister Anna in 1671-1672 based on her age at death, a calculation that seems unavailable for Jonathan. Further, the first child is not born until 1701, meaning Jonathan could be born as late as 1678 without raising eyebrows. For all that is explained, it could be this estimate was Bond's guess (p. 166, made apparently without knowledge of Anna's age at death), and blindly copied by Savage (Vol. 1, p. 452), then again by Coolidge (as cited), without investigation.
