The will of John Wilkinson listed in Will Book DD does not exist. There are no records of a John Wilkinson, married to Ann Douglas, who lived or died in Wilkes Co., GA. The only reference is found in Mr. M. M. Wilkinson's book. Micajah Wilkinson who married Mary Kennedy and lived in Richmond Co. GA was the son of Charles Wilkinson of Johnston Co., NC. Mr M M Wilkinson merged some members of my family into his book. There is no evidence that Micajah Wilkinson and my family were related.

John Wilkinson who died 1806 Wilkes Co., Ga is my ancestor. He did not list all of his children in his will. I sent a copy of the original will to the DAR as proof. Thomas Grant was a brother of Ann Grant who married Hazelwood Wilkinson. Hazelwod was the son of John who died in 1806. I have not found a wife of John Wilkinson but I believe that he had more than one wife. He had at least 13 children. John Wilkinson, Grant, Owens and other families moved from Grassy Creek, Granville Co., NC to Wilkes Co., GA. John Wilkinson of Wilkes Co., GA had no family living in GA during the Revolutionary War. I reviewed my copy of your ancestor's pension record. He served from Richmond Co. GA. My ancestor, John Wilkinson, had a son John who served in the revolution who lived in Granville Co. NC. After his service, John Wilkinson/Wilkerson lived Persons Co., NC. He drew a pension while living in Persons Co. and after he died, his widow drew a pension. Chat | Daily Search | My GenForum | Community Standards | Terms of Service Jump to Forum

I guess without documentation, the question of which John Wilkinson might be the son of John Wilkinson of Wilkes County ,1806, is open to debate. However, I do find that he does have a son named Sherwood named in his will, and that a Sherwood Wilkinson served in the Revolution.(Robert Davis, Jr.,Citizens and Soldiers, and Georgia Archives). I find only one Sherwood Wilkinson in Georgia during this time. John Wilkinson, RW, GA, served from 1776- 1782 and he did serve from Richmond Co. However, if you study early parishes of Georgia you will see that Wilkes and Richmond are next to each other, created from St. Paul's Parish, and that Rocky Creek was in St.Paul's Parish. This is where land of Sherwood Bugg was located. Also he did come go to Alabama in 1817, per pension statement. This was also the same time that Ann Wilkinson Harrison and brother Samuel Wilkinson went to Alabama. Same time/ same place twice. Also, John Jr is mentioned in tax records of Frank Parker Hudson.

I have pieced together lots of information from lots of sources about three John Wilkerson/Wilkinsons in Wilkes Co, Ga

1. John (William m. Huldah Godwin, Va) m. Ann Douglas d. Sarah Harwood m Seaborn Jones d. Ann m. John Cobison s. Micajah m Mary Kennedy s. Reuben m ? :Long s. John B. m Elizabeth Rae d. Carolina m Stephen Heard

Thomas Grant and Hazelwood Wilkinson were witnesses/executors of will

The same book has the following:

page 107, John, son of George Wilkinson, born 8ber ye 22nd 1716.

page 110, John, son of Fran and Mary Wilkinson b. APr 19, 1730

"IF" this is the family of Benjamin Wilkinson of Wilkes Co, GA and "if" he is the oldest child and born in 1748, I would say the older John (son of George Wilkinson) is probably too old.

page 44; Francis son of Dan Wilkinson Baptiz, ye 17 Octo.,1703

(Comment: "DAN" Wilkinson is not even listed in the index, but this is not the first name that I've found missing in the index)

Other children of Francis and Mary: page 108: Rebecca b. January ye 16th bapt. February 14, 1727

page 127: Mary b. Feb 19 bapt Apr 17 1736

You asked for the GRAND father of John Wilkinson. Who do YOU think his father is?

I'm NOT saying any of these people are the father or grandfather of John Wilkinson, father of Benjamin of Wilkes Co. GA. I just took names and went back with them. There are a lot of Wilkinsons listed in this book, tho. Where did you find that John Wilkinson married Judith Lee at Saint Peter's?

Where did you find that John wilkinson and Judith Lee are the parents of Benjamin?

Thank you,

Beth
