    John Ufford, s. of Thomas. He remained in Milford, where he d. in 1692. He m. (1) Hannah Hawley, sister of Mr. Joseph of Stratford. They agreed to disagree, and she succeeded in divorcing him on the ground that he was unqualified for the marital relation, and m. (2) Capt. John Beard, of Milford. The New Haven Colony Court, which had granted the divorce, felt badly used and made an inquiry when John sought to m. Martha [Her name erroneously reads Hannah in the overwritten original marriage record] Nettleton (orphan [not quite, but within a year] dau. of Samuel of Branford and Fairfield), then an apprentice in the elder Ufford's household. The marriage was permitted, and apparently took place abt. June 1657. Will 29 July 1689, proved 4 May 1692; eldest dau. Martha Carrow and her son Samuel Carrow; two youngest daus. Elizabeth and Lydia Uffet; dau. Mary Pickett; son Samuel (his uncle hath given him a large legacy); son John.
