Tunis, Ground to Death Near Howell Station. John M. Tunis, a retired farmer of Howell, was instantly killed beneath the wheels of an express train near his home last Wednesday. Mr. Tunis was taking a basket of grapes and tomatoes to a neighbor and failed to hear the approaching train as he stopped on the crossing. A freight train which was drilling near the station helped to drown the noise of the train. Mr. Tunis was thrown under the engine wheels and his body was literally ground to pieces, portions of the body being strewn along the track for hundreds of feet. The engineer and firemen of the train knew nothing of the accident until the train reached Farmlngdale. Mr. Tunis was 83 years old and leaves a brother and sister, Charles Tunis of Howell and Mrs. Tunis Denise of Freehold.
