Will of John Sutton sen'r of Scituate, dated 12 Nov 1691, proved 16 Mar 1691/2, "Aged 70 years or thereabouts being weak in Body", names wife Elizabeth; sons John, Nathaniel, and Nathan (under 21); daughters Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Hester.
John Sutton was an Ensign in King Philip's War, m. 1661 Elizabeth, d/o Samuel House. Children: Elizabeth, John, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Hester, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Nathan. [Listed as a separate person from the John Sutton who married Ann Cole who was listed as a second wife on this page. That John Sutton is the son of this one.]
[The Names of such of the Towne of Sicttuate as have take the Oath of Fidelities in the Yeare 1657.] John Sutton [Implies born before 1636 to be of legal age.]
2 Dec 1653 John Sutton Jr. moved from Hingham to Scituate and sold land "which the town of Hingham gave to John Sutton, my father".
This John Sutton is often mistakenly said to be the son of George Sutton. In particular, the Sutton article cited here, NEHGR, p. 91:64, states "This John Sutton is the same one whom Deane's History of Scituate, p. 346, and Savage's Genealogical Dictionary, vol. 4, p. 233, call the son of George Sutton." Later, it adds, "George Sutton, as far as it is now known, was not related to John Sutton."
