From McKinnon, Over the Portage: John served for eight years, as a Private, in the 42nd Highland Regiment, during the American Revolutionary War. He came to Saint John, NB in 1783 with the disbanded regiment, and went on to the Nashwaak, where he received land on the the Dugald Campbell grant.
