John stimson son of Jonathan & Abigail [sic, see note] stimpson : Dicesced July: 10: 1702.
↑ 2.02.1Bond, p. 583, appears to make several wrong assumptions about son John. All the information Bond appears to have is a death record in 1702 calling John the son of Jonathan and Abigail. From this he makes John the son of a 2nd wife Abigail and places him last in the birth order as a result.
The probate of Jonathan shows that his first wife Elizabeth survived him, so there was no second wife Abigail. This also invalidates the basis for the assumed birth order. Since there was a John and Abigail Stimson having children in Watertown about this time, Bond's confusion calls into question everything he says about John.
Outside the death record, what is known about John? In the bond of brother James, dated 1701, to pay his siblings, which appears to list the siblings in birth order, John is listed between Jonathan and Elizabeth, making his birth about 1678 (about half-way between 1675 and 1681/2). This would explain why no guardian was assigned to John in 1701 with the other minor children (Middlesex Probate 21490). On 5 Jul 1705, Samuel signs a receipt for himself and for "my Brother John Stimpson Dec'd". So the death record appears to be valid, but showing the wrong mother. Presumably Samuel administered John's estate, but no probate file has been found.
