    John Shoemaker, son of Baltzer of Maryland, is apparently the John Shoemaker who remained in Washington County, Maryland and died in Hancock District of this county, in 1841, at over 70 years of age. His will, signed in 1837, mentions his daughter Elizabeth, and the fact that he had other children. He apparently had sons: John, Jr, George, and Jacob.

    Last Will and Testament: In the name of God Amen. I, John Shoemaker, of Washington County and State of Maryland being sick in body but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding and wishing to settle my worldly affairs I therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Secondly I give and devise unto my eldest daughter Elizabeth Shoemaker for dear good causes and consideration receive unto her one tract or parcel of land whereon I now live on containing fifty acres be it more or less cauld (sp) and known by the name of "Oak & Pine" to have and know (sp) one else during her natural life and at her death the lands to be sold and equally divided among my surviving children. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 25 day of September in the year of our Lord 1837. Signed John Shoemaker

    Signed sealed published and declared by John Shoemaker the above named Testator as and for his last will and testament in the presents of us who at his request in his presents and in the presents of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto. A Bowles & Jacob Myer

    Washington County. To wit: on the 15 day of April 1841 came Abraham Hull & Jacob Myers and severally made oath to that they did see John Shoemaker the Testator within named sign and seal this will that they heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding that they subscribed their names as witnesses thereto in the presence and at the request of the Testator and that they saw the other two subscribing witnesses do the same. And on the 23 of April 1841 came Elizabeth Shoemaker the heir with the will annexed and made oath to that this is the one and whole will of Jno Shoemaker, late of said County. Dec that hath come to her hands & possession and that she does not know nor hath heard of any other. Certified by Daniel Schnebly.
