John Shields, s/o Daniel Shields and wife, Mary, was born about 1772 in Ireland. He immigrated with his parents and family to America about 1790 when they landed in Maryland.
He apparently left the family and moved to Virginia for a time where he married perhaps two wives. His first wife is unknown; his second wife was Elizabeth Wikle/Wykle, dau/o Susan (nee Unknown) Wikle/Wykle, who he married about 1825.
About 1838 he and his family rejoined the Shields family in Preble County, Ohio.
John wrote his will 7 August 1848. His will was probated 5 October 1848 in Preble County, Ohio, and his estate sale was 3 November 1848.
It is likely he was buried in Dry Creek Baptist Cemetery where his father, Daniel Shields, and other early Shields folks were buried.
Know children are:
Susannah, Diana, Henry, Eliza Margaret, Sarah Jane, Mariah E., John A, and Nancy Catherine. There appear to have been other unknown children.
