"Son of a gentleman of Barbadoes", he is named, with William Peabody, as one of the original proprietors of Little Compton, Rhode Island. Writer/cartoonist James Thurber is a descendant.

Mentioned in John Pabodie's will, dated 16 Jul 1649, proved 27 Jun 1666, are "Amie, wife of John Rouse, grandson John Rouse", quoting Source:Alden, Mrs. Charles L. Elizabeth (Alden) Pabodie and Descendants, p. 3.

In John Rouse's will, he made bequests to his wife and children John, Simon, Mary, Anna, and Elizabeth. Brother[in-law] Wm Paybodie was named one of the overseers. The court allowed the widow to take oath to the will and inventory at home on account of her age and weakness.
