His father Hugh Rodgers brought some of his children to Anson Co NC near their cousins, children of Joseph Rodgers. Hugh obtained a 300 acre NC land grant in 1753 to help get them established in NC.

Hugh did not move to NC. He maintained his home in Hanover Township of Lancaster Co PA. Records of Old Hanover Presbyterian Church prepared a "Pastor Call Letter" in 1754 on which appears Hugh signature as well as his widowed mother and brothers.

Hugh traveled back to Anson Co in 1755 to sell the 300 acre land grant. (Anson Co NC deed book C1 page 147) Proceeds from that sale enabled Robert to obtain land near his cousins along Buffalo Creek and Coddle Creek. This land later was in Mecklenburg Co and now in Cabarrus Co NC.

Hugh returned to Hanover Township and died there in 1758 intestate. He is buried in the Old Hanover Presbyterian Church Cemetery along with some of his brothers and his parents.

Robert acquired 138 acres recorded in Mecklenburg Co NC Book 1 page 88. A NC Land Grant dated 24 Jun 1762 Robert purchased 138 acres from His Excellency Arthur Dobbs land between Coddle and Buffalo Creeks Anson County. This deed also shows the court referred to Robert as a Yeoman. By English Law a young land owner of a plantation (one step lower than gentleman or nobility.) This deed was Witnessed by James Black the husband of his 1st cousin Elizabeth Agnes Rodgers, daughter of Joseph Rodgers.
