John Preston’s origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 17th October 1819, when he was married in Aberdeen to Jean Cromar. At the time of their marriage he was described as a sailor.

John and Jean appear to have had a daughter around 1821 and then a son in 1824 in Aberdeen.

No record of John’s death has been found, but he appears to have died sometime before 1832, when Jean remarried.
