His name John N. taken from his step-father's biography. His middle name Norman taken from the 1880 Nebraska census where he is the older brother of Owen.

In the 1870 Noble County, Indiana Census John is living with his Uncle Ira who is head of household for his widowed mother (Ann Corbin Potts, w/o Alford D. Potts) and her 3 children.

1880 Census, Nebraska, Richardson County: Steele, Samuel J. W M 32 painter IN PA OH Steele, Ida M. "I found record of a probate with names of John's children listed. It gives an idea of who the female children were married to at the time of his death: Potts John, d. 1-18-1888 Fd: 2-1-1888. Ch: Abigail J. Craven, Ira Potts. Heirs: Owen S., John N. Potts, Ida M. Steele, Elizabeth B. Dye, Harriet D. Brink." From Sharon Corcoran's research Owen, John N. & Ida were children of Alfred, John's deceased son. So this 1888 is the last record I have found of John Norman. I have not found him in the 1900 census.
