JOHN PORTER, probably the second son of William was probably born in Middletown, Ct. died in Hartland 7 June 1777. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Hartland and was adm. com. 11 Feb. 1776, and his death record is recorded here. According to the History of Hartland there were three men by the name of Porter who fought in the Revolutionary War from Hartland. These were found in the ROSTER OF OLD CONTINENTAL ARMY, Company 17 as follows:
Capt. John Porter H.H. 174a
Private Justus Porter, East Hartland #174
Private Thomas Porter, East Hartland #174
The number following their names designates the house on the map of West-Hartland found on page 42. See where John Porter's, Thomas Porter, Elishama Porter and Asher Benjamin lived. I believe this is probably our family, as the deeds from our Thomas Porter would indicated this was the area as it speaks in many of the deeds as being between the river and the road. Who this Justus Porter was I have no idea, but he seemed to be living in the Thomas Porter home. A copy of the Bond and Inventory of John Porter of the Town of Hartland dated 1777 No. 2330 is found in the Simsbury Probate District, & at the Connecticut State Library...
