  2.   Y DNA testing.

Two John Pikes have been conflated in the literature. John3 (James2, James1) married Elizabeth Welch and died in Norwich, CT. John3 (John2, James1) married Sarah Hyde and died 21 September 1754 in Canterbury, Windham, Connecticut. This can be proven conclusively by examining the Group 6 Y chromosome results in the Pike DNA project:

Note also that this John who married Sarah Hyde names a son Jarvis and had a brother Jarvis. Jarvis does not show up in the names of children in the Reading family. This new DNA information contradicts what was published in William Henry Harrison Stowell, in 'Four Generations of Descendants of Jonathan Hyde of Newton. Mass.' (The NEHGR Vol. 71. 1917. p. 262). However, it also confirms what was published in various Pike family genealogies.
