1) Info on John E Pepper's grave from: History of Burlington County, NJ - by Major E. M. Woodward 1883; http://www.shovergen.com/njburlin/cemeteries6.html 2) 10th NJ Volunteers, Co. C. entered as Sergeant, left in 1865 as Captain. Grave inaccurately marked as Co. G. 3) MA = MaisieAnn, Ohio.. - helped me through internet 4) MA--Frank: on p. 349 of Hy. of Burlington Co. by Major Woodward, in the "new cemetery" of Lumberton Village, Burlington Co., NJ, is the grave of a "Capt. John E. Pepper, Co. G, Tenth NJ Volunteers, born June 24, 1837, Died Oct. 1, 1875" The Company letter may be a misreading or typo....???Also, on Ancestry, under CW pensions and military records is Capt. Pepper who applied Jan. 1875 for pension as an "invalid"....wife was Rebecca C. who died 1890. The pension request was filed in PA. Will check 1870 census now 5) MA - In 1880, Rebecca C. Pepper was living in Bucks Co. with a family of James Slack....she was widow and a nurse, b. in PA in 1840 6) MA--About the 1890 date: I found the pension file cards online at Ancestry. They are idex cards....and I believe the dates are date filed, not necessarily DOD....so John filed in 1875 as invalid. We know Rebecca was working as nurse in 1880. Maybe she did not file for widow's pension until 1890, and then died in 1918 7) Also, on Ancestry, under CW pensions and military records is Capt. Pepper who applied Jan. 1875 for pension as an "invalid"....wife was Rebecca C. who died 1890. The pension request was filed in PA. References
