    He began military service on 3 May 1758 at Dover, Kent County, Delaware, enlisting for the Expedition against Quebec under Captain Benjamin Noxon. This command did not reach Quebec. It was quartered on Lake Champlain during one winter and finally mustered out of the service. He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War as a member of the Lieutenant Colonel's Company, Delaware Regiment, Col. David Hall, in 1779.
