- "John Peatross, son of Mathew and Elizabeth (Mayo) Peatross, baptized Dec. 7, 1679, Middlesex Parish, Virginia, on the same day as his sister, Elizabeth. He is mentioned in the will of his brother, Thomas Peatross, Essex, County, Virginia, in 1715, probated 1716, as being the father of Elizabeth, Matthew, Thomas and John Peatross. His wife, Ann is also mentioned. Aside from that brief reference there are no other records found by this writer until 1732 in Caroline County, which was formed from Essex County in 1727. It remains a mystery as to why he lived in such apparent anonymity until his 53rd year."
