Family tree▼ Facts and Events
John Palmer of Yorkshire, England, was a member of the Religious Society of Friends, and on account of the persecutions to which this sect was subjected by the Church of England at this period he resolved to emigrate to America. There is a tradition in the family that at this time he was engaged to be married to a sister of Christian Joses, but when he determined to come to America, she persistently refused to accompany him. John and his family settled in Makefield Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, near the Atkinson and Rowland families; this after having, per legend, spent the first winter in a cave on the banks of Brock Creek.. He later bult part of the mansion house "Journey's End." There are several other notable stone mansions in the area that have belonged to the Palmer family: Willow Bend, 1723, Boxwood Farm, c.1820, Jesse Palmer Tavern, 1765, Kirkbride-Palmer House, c.1750, David Palmer House, c.1820, and Mark Palmer's Hotel, c.1860 |
