[edit] Information on John NewmanFrom Genforum.com post: Recorded as being a soldier of the First Independent Company of Dunmore, Colony of Va. He purchased land in Greene Co., Tn. 8 Aug. 1780 from David Reese, 400 acres. He took part in the battle of King's Mountain, was one of Greene County's first magistrates, was Colonel, then Captain of the local militia. Greene Co., TN County Court Minutes 1783-1796 p. 15 John Newman Esqr. Saml Lyle & In Case Shadrach Morris The above named Jury passed on sd tryal do find for the plaintiff 6 pound damage vs Saml Lyle & Shadrach Morris & 6 pence cost. and find for John Newman dft. Mr. James Reese took the oath appointed for publick officers together with the oath of an attorney. In a cause tried bet. Edward Riggs paintiff and John Newman Esqrs. Shadarach Morris, and Saml Lyle defendants the verdict found for the plaintiff and the defendants atrorney enters a motion in arrest of Judgment. His second wife may have been Rebecca Fincher/Fancher whose first husband was John Drain who died in 1796 in Greene Co., TN. They had a son by the name of Jonathon born 29 Aug. 1796. |
